RURAL ROOTS FARMER SHOWCASE

In early 2019, a dedicated group of local food enthusiasts and farmers got the bright idea to build a sustainable, resilient local food community in north-west Alberta to connect local people to their roots and farm fresh food. The group showcased local farmers and other food providers, food artisans, and food enthusiasts in the rural farm areas north-west of Edmonton. It was a great success!

Rather than visiting individual farms, the Rural Roots Farmer Showcase highlights many local food producers by bringing them together at one spectacular venue, the George Pegg Botanic Garden. For the visiting public we offer a fully immersive, natural outdoor experience, combined with high quality, fresh local products and entertainers.

Rural Roots Farmer Showcase takes place during Alberta Open Farm Days, a collaborative, province-wide, two-day event that gives Albertans an opportunity to experience the farm and understand where their food comes from. It is a backstage pass to meet the farmer, experience Ag-tourism in Alberta, and taste local foods direct from the producer. Open Farm Days started in the Maritimes and moved West. 2024 will mark the 13th annual Alberta Open Farm Days and will be held on August 17-18. Visit albertaopenfarmdays.ca for more information.
