Tony Spencer and Wildscaping: Naturalistic Planting Design for North of the 49th Parallel

  • 56015 Range Road 43, Lac Ste. Anne County 2.5 km N of HWY 43 Glenevis, Alberta Canada (map)

The Alberta Horticultural Association is pleased to present a virtual webinar about new directions in naturalistic garden and planting design. Feel yourself transported by wild-ish garden landscapes with a northern feel, inspired by nature and the work of international designers like Piet Oudolf. Learn how to bring these ideas home to create and sustain dynamic garden spaces, filled with beauty and wildlife, allowing us to rekindle our relationship to the natural world.

Our speaker Tony Spencer, aka "The New Perennialist," is a writer, photographer, podcaster, speaker and award-winning planting designer inspired by the visionary work of Dutch garden designer, Piet Oudolf. With 30,000+ followers on his DutchDreams Facebook and New Perennialist Instagram accounts, as well as a popular blog (thenewperennialist.com), Tony's passion for this evocative "wild-scaping" style has led him to become the "ringleader" for devotees of the naturalistic planting movement. Tony is based in Mono, Ontario.

This webinar will not be recorded. Don't miss Tony's live-only presentation with time for questions!

About the Alberta Horticultural Association

The Alberta Horticultural Association is an organization of horticultural societies and individuals in Alberta who are involved with horticulture on a professional or amateur basis.

The AHA’s Mission is the advancement and promotion of horticulture in Alberta.  We do that by providing information to the gardening public, supporting horticulture education programs hosted by horticultural societies and clubs across Alberta, and by recognizing outstanding contributions by individuals in the field of horticulture.

For more information visit www.ABHortA.ca

We ask you to respect the $27.00/person registration. Like so many other organizations hosting events these days, we had hoped this could be an in-person presentation. Perhaps some of you will be able to gather in small groups to see Tony’s presentation- following all your local COVID restrictions.

Pegg Garden is excited to be a part of the growing interest in "New Perennialist" style planting. Plans to plant our own New Perennialist style bed began in March 2020. Over the past year we have been preparing the planting site designed by Maria Beers and Clara Qualizza. Plants are scheduled to arrive May 2022. Using Tony Spencer's experience and advice, we will put it into practice for Alberta gardeners to see how it works in our landscapes.
