On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16th, the historic George Pegg Botanic Garden hosted the 7th annual Outdoor Art in the Garden Show and Sale. It was a day full of sunshine and warm weather and the event went off without a hitch. The lovely weather helped create an atmosphere that encouraged attendees to peruse vendor tents at a leisurely pace. This was the perfect setting for visitors to learn about the artists’ craft. Phenomenal live music was provided by the Joe Saumer Big Band, the Magic Lamp Singers, and Lester Jodzio. Attendees could be seen bopping their heads along with the music at any given moment. Children at the event were kept occupied at the craft corner and artist Dave Hogg let some young artists try out his sculpting tools. Four legged friends also enthusiastically explored the property. The George Pegg Botanic Garden would like to thank all the volunteers who made this event possible, the musicians who knocked our socks off, the artists whose skill blew us away, and the attendees who made the event worthwhile. Join Artist Rayma Peterson on Sunday, July 14 for An Introduction to Botanical Art, from 10:00am-2:00pm. Fabulous Flower Pots with Lac Ste.Anne County’s Parent Link Program is Thursday, July 18 from 1:00-3:00pm. The fine china is coming out again for the 2 nd Annual Tea in the Garden- Thursday, July 25. Enjoy a Day of Nature, Art, and Music: Art in the Garden
Staff and volunteers at the George Pegg Botanic Garden have been raking, mowing, weeding, and planting to make its 2019 season as great as it’s predecessors. All those involved with the botanic garden are optimistic that summer 2019 at the George Pegg Garden will yield some of the best turnouts to Garden events. The first major event at the George Pegg Botanic Garden this year will be the 7th annual “Art in the Garden: outdoor art show and sale” taking place on Sunday, June 16th, from noon till five. The “Art in the Garden: outdoor art show and sale” will surely be a can’t miss event as it has something for everyone. Children will have the opportunity to create crafts at the kids creative corner. Meanwhile, Youth and Adults will be preoccupied with marveling at the wide array of flowers and, vegetation, including some that are a rarity in Western Canada, at the garden. Additionally, all members of the family will enjoy the multiple musical performances at the “Art in the Garden: outdoor art show and sale” by local talent. Attendees will also get to appreciate amazing art pieces by local artists. The highlight of this event will be the youth art showcase. Attendees of the “Art in the Garden: outdoor art show and sale” will get to revel at a plethora of art pieces created by local Youth. The youth art showcase will include pieces of art of different types and media’s, all competing for the chance to win a $65 and $50 gift certificate. Furthermore, the “Art in the Garden: outdoor art show and sale” will provide its attendees with the opportunity to meet the local artists whose pieces will be on display and for sale. This event will also provide its attendees with the opportunity to view art demonstrations from masterful artisans. The “Art in the Garden: outdoor art show and sale” will have food, beverages, and accessible washrooms available to the public. Admission to this event at the George Pegg Botanic Garden is by donation. All donations collected will go towards the maintenance of the George Pegg Botanic Garden. A Gathering of Talented Artists in a Beautiful Setting
(PRESS RELEASE: June 10, 2015) Not only is Sunday, June 21 Father’s Day, it is also National Garden Day and the George Pegg Botanic Garden is celebrating in a big way! From noon to 5 p.m., visitors of all ages are invited to the third annual Art in the Garden Show and Sale.
It is a colourful scene with more than 20 artists displaying their work throughout the Garden. Event coordinator and artist Hilde Keller says “We are excited to have many returning artists as well as several new and interesting participants. The range of work is wonderful.” While the Garden provides a unique backdrop, visitors also have a rare opportunity to talk to each of the artisans and to learn about their craft.
Adding another dimension to the event, Sangudo Arts for Everyone (SAFE) has a full slate of musicians to perform throughout the art show. Starting with the Magic Lamp Singers and rounding out the show with other featured musicians, the repertoire will stretch from folk to rock to Celtic.
Visitors will also be treated to a display of work from our young artists. They will help judge the Youth Art Competition featuring junior and senior high school students. With face painter Jacquie Paul at work, there will also be many creative creatures roaming the Garden, and local artist Katrina Spicer has an art project for all the little visitors. Rounding off the day is good food, with a concession in the Visitors Centre and Corny Productions set up in the Garden.

A Showcase for Our Young Artists
(PRESS RELEASE: May 27, 2015) An impressive lineup of artists are preparing for the 3rd Annual Art Show and Sale at the George Pegg Garden on Sunday June 21, from noon to 5pm. This year students from grades 1-12 are invited to enter their art work for a public display.
For each participant from grades 1-6 there are prizes of art supplies. Junior and High School students are invited to enter up to 2 pieces for the Viewers’ Choice Award with a chance to win 2 cash prizes

Art Festival at Pegg Garden: Artists Invited to Take Part
The beautiful setting at the George Pegg Garden is a perfect backdrop for artists to display their work. On Sunday, June 21st Lac Ste. Anne County’s historic Garden is host to the third annual Art in the Garden Show and Sale.
Art Show coordinator Hilde Keller is delighted with the range of artists coming to this year’s event. Visitors will see everything from landscapes to abstract and ornamental to functional. Fine art in watercolour, acrylic, oil, and pastels along with ceramics, pottery, and fibre art will add colour to the Garden.

George Pegg Annual Meeting & Rare Plants Talk
Join us Monday, May 4th for a light supper at 6pm. At 7pm meet our guest Kristen Andersen speaking about the rare plants of the Whitehorse Wildland Park. Annual meeting to follow. Presentation Summary
For many people, the historic George Pegg Garden evokes images of the unusual butternut tree, exploring the old log house, or dabbling in the pond. However it was George Pegg’s passion for identifying Alberta’s native plants that makes the Garden significant. He had a particular interest in the Cadomin area. Located near Jasper, it is now part of the Whitehorse Wildland Park .
Whitehorse Wildland Park is truly a gem nestled on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains adjacent to Jasper National Park. It is home to many wonderful hiking trails and alpine wildflower meadows such as the Cardinal Divide, which is one of the only alpine zones around that is accessible by car.
Over 250 plant species have been documented as occurring in the Wildland Park area. Of these, a striking number are rare, and/or have unusual distributions, which some attribute to unique geology there. Home to so many important plants and wildlife species, and with threats from mining operations nearby, the ANPC has maintained a stewardship presence there for many years. A team of botanists including our guest speaker is currently developing a field guide to common plants of the Whitehorse Wildland Park to provide an educational tool and help promote conservation for this special place. Join us to hear and see the wildflowers and other unique aspects of the Whitehorse Wildland Park.
Our Guest Speaker
Kristen Andersen has worked as an environmental consultant for the past 17 years, and has been an active volunteer with the Alberta Native Plant Council (ANPC) during the past 7 years, currently as the Information and Education Committee Lead and as Steward of the Whitehorse Wildland Park. She also teaches Wetland Ecology at the University Of Alberta Faculty Of Extension. Native plant conservation is part of both her work and hobbies and encouraging others to see the natural resources around us in a new light is one of her favorite things to do.

Volunteers are the driving force of this scenic site. While we have a full slate of executive members for the board, we always welcome new members as directors and volunteers.
