Location: George Pegg Botanic Garden (56015 Range Road 43, Lac Ste. Anne County)
Cost: FREE Admission, but pre-registration is required so we know how many people to prepare for.
Schedule of Events: Many events overlap with one another to give you options for what you'd like to participate in throughout the day! Start your day at Pegg Garden or at the Lu Carbyn Nature Sanctuary parking area (10:00AM)
9:00 AM to 4:00 PM - Pegg Garden is open all day long for drop-in displays, a collaborative art project, children’s activities, volunteer-led tours of the site with walks to the pond, and a scavenger hunt to learn about birds in the historic garden. Be sure to pick up a birding checklist with species local to the area!
10:00 AM to 12:00 PM - Guided Walk of the Lu Carbyn Nature Sanctuary (located 20 minutes west of Pegg Garden at Township Road 550, north of Darwell off HWY 765 with the Edmonton and Area Trust and the amazing Dr. Lu Carbyn himself! Bring your binoculars. EALT will have a few binoculars to loan.
12:00 PM to 1:00 PM - BBQ Hotdog + Bannock Lunch, with all proceeds donated to Alberta Society for Injured Birds of Prey. Or bring your own lunch, we have picnic tables.
12:00 PM to 4:00 PM - Backyard Birds Nature Shop and Clumsy Cat Birdhouses will both be on site with items for sale at their pop-up shop! Cash, credit and debit accepted. Meet staff from the Edmonton and Area Trust to learn about all 17 of their conservation areas. A local Geocaching enthusiast will also be on site for the afternoon to answer all of your geocaching related questions.
12:00 PM to 2:00 PM -Meet a Live Bird of Prey, Boss the Swainson's Hawk, from the Alberta Society for Injured Birds of Prey!
2:00 PM to 3:00 PM - Bird Sound Identification Class & Quiz with Backyard Birds Nature Shop ! No cost to participate! Perfect for novice birders and a great start of the season refresher for other birders.
3:00 PM to 4:00 PM - Create a Bird Nesting Wreath Workshop with Lisa Cheesman from Clumsy Cat Birdhouses! Note: Pre-registration & fee payment of $14/person required.
3:30 PM - Prize Draw for a number of great prizes from local vendors, including (2) Bluebird Houses, (5) Bumblebee Nesting Boxes, and other prizes from Clumsy Cat Birdhouses and Backyard Birds Nature Shop!
